Obituary

CHARLES RICHARD GARR 1909-1988 Charles Richard Garr was born to the late parents of Craig and Melvinie (nee Hannibal) Garr on February 20, 1909, in Norwich, Connecticut. He was one of six children, all of whom preceded him in death. Charles left Connecticut as a young man and headed for the state of Kentucky. There he met Viola Fitzgerald and was united in Holy Matrimony in June of 1929. This marriage was blessed with four children; two sons and two daughters. In 1942, the family left Kentucky and moved to Medina, Ohio, migrating to Akron shortly thereafter. He was employed at the General Motors Company in Cleveland, Ohio. He retired after twenty-five years of service. Soon after the passing of his wife, Viola and his retirement, Charles decided to move to Cincinnati to be near his two sons in 1972. 'Grandad' Charles accepted Christ as his personal Savior, joined and was baptized at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist church by his oldest son, Rev. Joseph R. Garr in 1976. He was a member of the Senior Usher Board. 'Grandad' was married to Ruth Estell in 1976. She passed in September 1984. 'Grandad' answered the call on Thursday, October 27, 1988 at Deaconess Hospital following a brief illness. A good neighbor, a quiet man with a gentle, wonderful smile, patient and loving.............'Charlie', 'Poppa', 'Daddy', 'Grandad' will be remembered in our hearts.
