Catherine Dale was born to Bill and Eloise Gordon Dale in Sardis, Alabama. She was the fourth of nine siblings. Affectionately known as Cat by her family and Cathy by her co-workers, she was educated in the Dallas County Public Schools and finished her education after moving to Cincinnati, Ohio. She joined St. Paul AME Church where she served as a steward and sang in the choir.

On December 3, 1957 she welcomed her only child, Kelvin Van Dale and raised him with the help of her wonderful family. She spent her professional career as an operator and manager with the Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company. After retirement she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida to assist with the upbringing of her granddaughters Brittney and Courtney.

She united herself with Philip R. Cousin AME Church on June 5, 1994. She served passionately as a steward and administrative assistant to the pastor during the planning and building of the new worship center. She loved and supported the church even as her health declined.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024 the Lord called her home and she peacefully transitioned with her son by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ernestine Dale, Zadie Dale, Minnie Lomax, Lawrence Dale and Ernest Lee Dale.

We thank the Lord for eighty-four years of her loving spirit, kind heart and beautiful smile, as well as her dedication and commitment to her faith, her family and her church. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Kelvin Van Dale; her granddaughters, Brittney Collins and Courtney Catherine Dale Orgias (Justin); three great grandchildren, Harley, Xavier and Whitley; three brothers, Daniel Dale (Sandra) of Wichita, Kansas, Melvin Dale (Maria) of Sardis, Alabama, and Edward Dale (Sandy) of Cincinnati, Ohio; an incredible village of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and longtime church members.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on  Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Greater Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 7181 Reading Road, Cincinnati  (45237).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.

Interment will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery.
