Obituary

In the early morning, God called our mother, sister, aunt, and friend Carol Jean Booker home with Him on February 16, 2022.

Carol Jean Booker was the first born to the union of Gladys & John Booker Sr. on December 3, 1948.

Carol Jean grew up in the West End, Laurel Homes apartments. She had a heart for helping people. As our brother Jackie stated CJ was his rock, and indeed Carol Jean, affectionately known as "C.J." was "Our Rock".

You may not have seen or heard much from her because she pretty much stayed in the background, however she was always there helping, and supporting family and friends.

The eldest of 5 children CJ took on the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings while our parents were out working and providing for the household.

CJ was an activist of sort, serving as a member of the "SBPN" aka "Solving Black Problems Now" group. A group formed from back in the day to help poor black people in the West End.

Carol Jean used her life "in service" to those around her after graduation from Robert A. Taft High School. She went to work at Hostess Bakery while raising her 3 sons. After seeing her children through school, graduation, and careers, she retired from the Bakery.

CJ decided her next assignment was to continue giving care at good Samaritan Hospital unitl her retirement December 11, 2013. CJ decided she still was not done with care giving, so she became a "Grandmother" to the school children at Rockdale Elementary, where she excelled & flourished.

To this day she is beloved and missed by the little children. Carol Jean loved having a good time with family and friends, dancing, listening to music. Her passion was the "Oldies". She loved singing!!!

Carol Jean leaves to cherish her memory 3 sons, Vaughn Booker, Anthony Booker (Marsha), Rico Booker (Tonia). 1 brother, John "Jackie" Booker Jr. (Beverly), 2 sisters, Toni Wallace (Gary), Kimberley Jackson. 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
