Obituary

Carla Mae Webb a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, community servant, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully at her home on May 21, 2025, at the age of 71.

Affectionately known as Mama, Granny, Ms. Webb, Coach Carla, Coach Webb, Grandma Carla, Mama Webb, Aunt Carla.

Carla Mae Webb was born to Mayetta Reed and James Lake (Ruth), and lovingly raised by Abraham Davis (Birmingham, Alabama) on September 24, 1953. As allowing GOD first in her life, she became a member of Bethel Baptist Church at a very early age as it was the Reed Family church joined by her ancestors the Smith girls in the early 1900's. Her fondest memories of her childhood were being raised on 1214 Lincoln Ave and Tuxedo with the Reed clan. Her childhood was filled with joy and strong family ties.

She took pride in her upbringing in the Walnut Hills community. Carla attended Frederick Douglass Elementary, Samuel Ach, Sawyer Junior High School, and Courter Tech High School. As a young mother at 15, she joined the Neighborhood Youth Corps and graduated from Hughes Night School with her diploma in 1971. Education, hard work, and perseverance became lifelong values that she passed down to future generations.

Her love for numbers and work ethic led to a 34-year career at Frisch's Corporate Office as an Accountant and Manager of Accounts Payable. After retirement, she rejoined the workforce with Lasik Plus and served 10 years on their finance team. She also worked as a loving caregiver and at Beck's Hardware, never hesitating to serve others.

Carla was a devoted and remarkable mother, raising her children with love, strength, and joy. She gave birth to three children but mothered many. She met Rick Payne and gave birth to her first son, Rickey Shawn Reed. As a young single mother, her and Shawn would take the bus to football practices and games. Making sure she was always there to cheer him on and be his biggest fan on and off the field. Taking pride in seeing him leave for California as a young man, join the military as a man, and becoming a father of two beautiful daughters.

In 1978, she married Aldon Webb and had two more children: Ebony Dawn Webb came in 1979. Carla and Ebony's relationship was mirrored from the close relationship she had with her mother Mayetta Reed. Carla enjoyed spending time at church with her children, from BBC vacation bible school to becoming Ebony's girl scout leader that took her and several other girls on fun trips to teach them camping, singing, cooking, and survival skills. Carla loved participating in Ebony's school activities sponsoring the Hughes HS senior breakfast for the 1997 graduating class. Carla and Ebony spent many years traveling the world together, even going to Africa in 2008. Carla's greatest joy was supporting Ebony through motherhood. Being an involved second mother to Ebony's 5 children and the best "Granny" any child could ask for.

In 1981, Carla became a mother to her youngest son Aldon Webb Jr. He was an athletic child, so Carla went back to the fields to be his biggest cheerleader while doing football and baseball. Carla loved seeing him become a father and be a part of his 3 children's lives.

In 1995, Carla welcomed her first-born granddaughter Destiny Michelle Webb (daughter of Ebony Webb & Michael Howe), and in 1998 her first-born grandson, Adreion 'A.D.' Brown (son of Aldon Webb Jr & Angella 'Chewy' Brown), nurturing them with the same love, guidance, and devotion she gave her own children. She was a pillar of her children's lives and her grandchildren's hearts.
