Obituary

Calvin Merritt was born on November 17, 1938, to the late Marvin and Clemmie Merritt, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was one of three children from this union, preceded in death by his sister, Marvina Merritt. He departed this life on October 26, 2015, at the Horizon Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Calvin accepted Christ at an early age, and was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.L. Collins. He was educated in the Cincinnati Public School system and worked for the Star Company for many years, training the disabled to be productive members of the work force. Calvin was a kindhearted, generous man who met no strangers and was very witty and humorous. In years past, he was an avid bid-whist player. One of his favorite past times was watching old movies and westerns. He was a sports fanatic; and especially enjoyed football and watching the Cincinnati Bengals. Calvin was not able to get out much due to his ailments, but that did not stop him from tuning in to his favorite T.V. ministers every Sunday. Calvin leaves to cherish his memory: one loving and devoted son, Marvin (Genessa) Merritt; four sisters, Levora Hudson, Lavonne Merritt, Shirley (Courtland) Johnson, Laverne (Denman) Gordon; three grandchildren, Marvin Merritt, Casey Wilds and India Merritt; niece, Heidi Thompson; nephews, Gregory Merritt, Louis Lee; cousins, Ann (Lamar) Daniels of Atlanta, GA, Adrienne (William) Stevenson, Charles Prichet, Deborah Viney of Columbus, OH, Toni Gwynne of Franklin, TN; friend, Jean Cornelius and a host of many more nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends. Visitation 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at New Prospect Baptist Church, 1580 Summit Road, Cincinnati, Ohio (45237).
