Obituary

Brenda Jean Watts Lyles was born to the late Joyce and Johnnie B Watts Sr.'s union on November 15, 1952. Brenda departed this life on June 16, 2025.

BRENDA'S EARTHLY LIFE

Brenda enrolled in a program called Neighborhood Youth Corps. During that time, she obtained her GED, worked various jobs to get her secretarial skills, and was rewarded with a two-year work program for the State of Kentucky. After completing her two years, the Cabinet for Human Resources hired her permanently. She worked for the Cabinet for 29 years before retiring.

Brenda also worked various part-time jobs along with the State, so she could provide for her children. Her jobs included The Godfather Lounge, Greenup Cafe, Us Bank Arena, Victory Janitorial Services, and CVS Pharmacy, which she worked for 21 years before retiring.

Brenda gave her life to Christ at an early age while attending St. James A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. White. In her teenage years, she joined Ninth Street Baptist Church under the leadership of William McCullough, and as an adult, she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph R Garr. Brenda was a faithful member of the choir until some health problems developed. She then joined the Usher board, where she was many times the only Usher ushering. While continuing to Usher, she was elected to be a Trustee, and Brenda served both these offices as best she could, remaining faithful to God and her church.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Benny Lyles; son, Benjamin Lemuel Watts; mother, Joyce Louise Watts; father, Johnnie B Watts, Sr.; stepmother, Jeanette Watts; brother, Johnnie Benjamin Watts, Jr.; and sister, Felicia Anita Watts Blythe.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children: Antonio (Kendale), Latasha, Carmella, Demetrius (Crystal), and Anita; her siblings: Robert Carl (Shauna), Alphonso (Donna), Jeffrey, Daryl, and Christopher; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other family members and dear friends.

"Now I am departing the world; I am leaving them behind and coming to you, Holy Father, keep them and care for them-all those you have given me-so that they will be united just as we are." John 17:11

"Whom have I in Heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is my Forever." Psalms 73:25-26
