Obituary

Bobby Joe Hamner, 73, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was born August 10, 1952, and passed away on March 29, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Bobby grew up in South Avondale, Cincinnati, where he spent his childhood surrounded by family, friends, and a close-knit community that helped shape his generous and kind-hearted nature. From an early age, he displayed a love for learning, sports, and connecting with others. He often worked alongside his father and brothers at the Cincinnati Reds stadium, where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong appreciation for baseball.

In his teenage years, Bobby attended Withrow High School, where he graduated in 1970. During these formative years, he continued to grow in character and leadership, laying the foundation for a life of service. Bobby went on to attend Ohio State University, where he majored in Urban Planning. While there, he pledged and became a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, embracing the values of brotherhood, perseverance, and community service that he carried throughout his life.

Bobby was a dedicated social worker and sex education counselor, known for his hospitable, generous, kind, and loving spirit. He enjoyed traveling, baseball, and sports and was a lifelong supporter of those around him. A giver to his younger siblings, Bobby’s guidance, care, and generosity left a lasting impact on their lives.

He found great joy in his family, especially in spending time with his granddaughter, shopping for her, and creating lasting memories. He was also well-known for giving dollars to his nieces and nephews and for his famous hambone—a cherished memory that brought laughter and smiles to all who knew him.

Bobby is survived by his sons, Scott and Brandon Hamner; granddaughter, Keziah Ray; special friend, Monica Bland; siblings: Rosemary, Anthony, Zerubabel, Gregory, Deborah, Gerry Sr., Theodore, Sheila, Janice, Gwendolyn, Andrew, Yehoshua, Tova, Ishiyah, Ophir, and Tamara; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Fairbanks and Fannie Fairbanks, and his brothers James, Ricky, Gerald, and Sam.

Bobby Joe Hamner will be remembered as a man who lived generously, loved deeply, and brought joy to all who knew him. His spirit, kindness, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
