Betty Ann
Treadwell
July 18, 1948 – April 8, 2026
Betty Ann May-Treadwell, born July 18, 1948, to Mary Ulmer (May) and Ben Ulmer, was loved and nurtured from three days old by those she referred to as Aunt Lucy and Uncle Grady, who both preceded her in death. She always spoke of the life they afforded her, and she was very grateful.
Raised in Hazelwood, a subdivision of Blue Ash, Ohio, Betty always considered Hazelwood home, even after she moved away and started a family. She often spoke fondly of her memories growing up there. Betty attended Sycamore Schools and completed many classes and courses thereafter.
She held various positions throughout her career, including roles in accounting and customer service, and spent many years as a top sales performer at Time Warner Cable.
Betty was a frequent Walmart shopper. We could always tell when she was having an okay day because she would say, “Do you need anything from Walmart?”—which was her way of saying, “Let’s go to Walmart.” She often ran into people she knew there. She never met a stranger and would sit in her cart and talk to anybody.
Betty was never one to mince words; she didn’t mind telling you how she felt, whether through words or a look. However, when she loved, she loved deeply. Her family was everything to her. While she loved us all, when those who referred to her as “Grandma” or “Shuga” came around, the rest of us had to step aside. Her great-grandbabies were her life. Even during her illnesses, she would perk up when they came around.
Starting in childhood, Betty attended the Church of Christ with family and friends. Later in life, she attended the Kennedy Heights Church of Christ, where she accepted Christ and was added to the church in the early eighties under the leadership of Brother Lee Townes. She continued attending under the leadership of Brother Greg Jasper until her health no longer allowed her to. She missed her church family dearly.
Through years of illness, pain, and multiple hospital visits, she fought hard. She never complained and never gave up hope. Near the end, she grew tired and said she was ready to be with the Lord. We were not ready to let her go, but God knows best.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Thomas Treadwell; her children, Rodney May, Dionne Treadwell, Danielle Wilson (Doug), and bonus daughter Cynthia Treadwell; her brothers, Ben Ulmer Jr., Larry Riddley (Monique), Benard White, and Oliver Williams; and her sisters, Vinney Washington, Benetta Carter (Leslie), Ellen Mota (Carlos), and Heather Smith.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Minor (Elizabeth); her sister, Ernestine G. Brooks (Bishop William Brooks II); her sister, Mary Ulmer; and her parents, Ben and Mary Ulmer.
To carry on her legacy, she also leaves four grandchildren, Breanna (Will), Brandi, Myelle, and Thomas; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends, including her close friend Elaine Harris and cousin Valerie Miller, with whom she spoke daily.
