Obituary

Ben Wright, Sr, was born January 24,1923 in Greensboro, Georgia to the late Hattie and Major Lee Wright. Ben left his hometown of Greensboro, Ga at the young age of 20 to serve in the Army during World War II. He often shared memories of his war experience which provided him opportunity to travel the world. After returning from war Ben married Johnnie and they relocated to Cincinnati where they raised their 7 children. He was a long and faithful member of New Christian Life Baptist Church during his years in Cincinnati where he served as a Deacon. He was a licensed operator and drove a semitruck, working for Crane Supply Company for many years before retiring. He briefly lived in San Diego, CA after retirement, but then returned south to Atlanta, Ga where he lived until age 90. Ben spent the last 4 years of his life in Cincinnati doing what he loved best, living life to the fullest. Whether he was sneaking off to the local donut shop, gambling at the casino, playing dominoes, or riding around the city as his son's side-kick, he always had a funny story to share with anyone who would listen. One of his favorite stops was his son-in-law's store where he would pick up a pack of cigarettes and a pint of wine (or two). He was blessed to have the daily care of his son and daughter-in-law. Despite his age, he had a healthy appetite. He regularly requested watermelon, pig feet, beans, buttermilk and cornbread and he would eat every bite. Whether you knew him as Daddy, Grandpa, Pops, Ben, Uncle Buck, "Buckshot", "Big Ben in 210...", remember him for one of his many sayings like "...funny looking duck" or for a funny story that left you bent over in laughter, you know Ben loved life and knowing him was truly a blessing. Ben passed away on October 31, 2017 peacefully at Twin Towers Life Enriching Community after a short illness. He died in the presence of love ones wrapped in his family reunion quilt. He was 94 years old. Ben is survived by his sister, Christine Wright Rowland of Greensboro; by his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wright of Atlanta and Delores Wright of Cincinnati; his children, Essie Birgans of Cincinnati, Ella Adams of Atlanta, Ben Wright, Jr. of Cincinnati, Stanley Wright (Donna) of Cincinnati, Rickey Wright of Atlanta, and Deborah Moore (Tony) of Cincinnati; his 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and loved ones.
