Funeral Services will be conducted at St. John AME Zion Church, 425 Forrest Avenue, Cincinnati (45229) with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment Vine Street Hill Cemetery. Life's Reflection Our mother was born November 4, 1927 in Lynch, Kentucky to the union of Columbus and Everlois Brown. Mama was a very happy child who loved people and made friends easily. She graduated from Lynch Colored High School where she was very popular. Goode Temple AME Zion was her church home. She sang in the church choir that consisted of her sister Iola and her brother Frank. After graduation she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. While working at Mills restaurant she met and married General Oliver. Five children were born from this union. She later married Raymond Allen Sr. (deceased) four children were born from this union. She worked at Union Terminal Station for a short while. She would often talk of the famous people that frequented the station. She worked at Frisch's Big Boy restaurant for over 40 years. She took pride in her work as a cook. Sometimes struggling to make ends meet, her restaurant job would provide some of our meals. We laugh about our many big boy lunches that we traded in school. Mama was not only a mother to us she was also a wonderful sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt. Her nieces and nephews affectionately called her Aunt Bea. Mama would always call her family to make sure everything was okay. She would give a helping hand where ever she could. She loved the theatre and going to the movies. She enjoyed traveling yearly to the Eastern Kentucky Social Club reunion. This was a club formed by her brother and several people from her home town. The reunions were held in different parts of the country. Every memorial day she would visit her home town. She traveled by bus to visit her son Orlando in Florida, and the train to visit her son Michael in California. Twice a year she would make Detroit her home while visiting her daughter. Her apartment was located on the banks of the Detroit River. Mom also enjoyed reading. She would sit outside on the bench watching the boats go by as she read one of her favorite books. She looked forward to planning our yearly family reunions. She was the secretary of the Cincinnati chapter of the Brown Family reunion. She made sure that the family meetings were held each month to continue the legacy that was put in place by her two brothers and sister. In her later years she joined St. John A.M.E. Zion Church. She enjoyed her church. Her daughter Theresa picked her up every Sunday making sure she was in attendance. She enjoyed her work at the church, helping out where ever she was needed. Her family gave her great joy. With a stern voice we all knew she was no nonsense. The combination of her love and sternness has helped to keep the family together. Ma you will always remain that beacon of light that shines on our hearts. There will never be another Aunt Bea. Mama loved all of her brothers and sisters. She developed a special attachment to her sister Helen (Cat) and her brothers Rodger, Frank, Alex and Gardner. All preceded her in death. Mom has already joined her son Rodger Allen in heaven. She leaves in waiting until we see her again, her children Barbara Oliver Clay, Theresa Oliver Benford, Michael Oliver, Denise Oliver Brockman, Alicia Oliver Welch (Richard), Damon Oliver Allen Sr.(Lisa), Orlando Oliver Allen(Deena), and Sandra Oliver Allen; four stepchildren, Ronnie Allen, Raymond Allen Jr., Olivia Holmes (deceased), Deborah Allen; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grand children, and two great- great grandchildren; two brothers, Wilson Brown (Phyllis), Christopher Columbus Brown Jr. (Flora) and her oldest and dearest sister Iola Hawkins. Wonderful nieces and nephews that were very dear to her.
