He departed this life on November 22, 2014. Bobby found Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Mont Tabor Baptist Church by the late Rev. Maupin. He loved to sing, loved skating, playing pool, dominoes, and card games. He was a very outgoing person and was well liked by the numerous friends he made throughout his life. He could be the life of the party and would keep everyone laughing. He was preceded in death by his father Jesse Smith, brothers Ernest and James Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Devaughn-Smith; siblings, John (Doris Jean) Phillips, Marvin (Nora) Phillips of Mississippi, Jodie Smith, Jasper (Stella) Smith of Tennessee, and Stanley Smith; sisters Martha (Louis K. Johnson) Hill and Sarah Smith. He is also survived by six children: sons, Alonzo Purdie (Kim), Darren Smith (Atlanta, Ga), Antonio Smith, Steven DeVaughn, DeAngelo Davis, Daughter Cynthia B. DeVaughn and stepson David DeVaughn, several grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and one special friend Clarence Redding. Husband God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. The weary days of pain , the sleepless nights are past and gone. It is hard for me to understand why you had to leave. I know you are in a better place now, and have joined your siblings. God saw the pain you were in so he opened his heavenly doors to welcome you in. I love you with all my heart and may God keep you in his arms.
