Obituary

Mrs. Ardella M. Green was the only child born to Houston and Marie Hines on September 10, 1931. She was a graduate of Scott High School in Toledo, OH and graduated from the University of Toledo with an Associate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources.  She married Charles Romeo Simpson, Sr. and two children were born to this union: Charles (Chuck) Romeo Simpson, Jr. and Karen Marie Simpson-Soumare.  Ardella began her career in the Toledo Public School System as an Office Administrator. Her next career move was with the Owens-Illinois Training Center as an Instructor. Ardella was a Charter Member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. in Toledo, OH. After her children matured, she accepted a position with the Unisys Corporation as Personnel Director in Marietta, OH. By way of a promotion, Ardella transferred to the Unisys Corporate Office in Philadelphia, PA.

HER PASSION WAS FASHION so she began her entrepreneurial pursuits with weekend Trunk Shows always enlisting the assistance of her daughter, Karen. As her fashion consulting business grew, she opened an upscale boutique that she and her son, Chuck, proudly named Proxy Shop. Ardella was an expert when it came to shopping by proxy for her friends and clients. She was a Personal Shopper Extraordinare!  Ardella found time for love again. David Green pursued her, moved to Philly, and married Ardella over 30 years ago. David and Ardella moved to Cincinnati after she retired to be closer to Karen and her Granddaughter, Shayna.  Upon moving to Cincinnati she joined and became actively involved with her beloved Greater New Hope Family. The Scholarship Committee was her favorite ministry.  She also volunteered at the St. Ursula Academy Spirit Shop a/k/a the "Dawg House" and spent many years donating her time to Crayons to Computers.  Ardella was the ultimate lady who educated young women on how to properly present themselves to the world. She taught etiquette classes including how to set a table, table manners, and understanding appropriate behavior in social settings.

Ardella leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, David Green; her loving son, Charles (Gloria) Simpson; her devoted daughter, Karen (Mamadou) Simpson-Soumare; her twin grandsons, Charles and John Simpson (John preceded her in death); her committed Granddaughter, Shayna Smith; her Granddaughter by Choice, Ebony Smith; two great-grandsons, Steven Charles Simpson & John Houston Simpson, Jr., and a host of dear Family and Friends.
