IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony
Long
October 8, 1959 – December 18, 2010
ANTHONY "TONY" LONG was born October 8, 1959 to Mary Catherine and the late Thomas J. Long in Cincinnati, Ohio. He lived most of his 51 years in Colerain Township and Forest Park. After graduating from Mt. Healthy High School in 1977, he attended the University of Cincinnati for one year. Anthony was fortunate to discover his true passion early in life. For him cooking was not only his occupation but also his hobby. Like most chefs, he delighted in preparing food for the enjoyment of others. He enjoyed crafting dishes that ranged from the very simple to sophisticated gourmet. Watching him watch others eat his food or marvel at one of his ice-carvings, one could see him swell up with pride. Though he never realized his dream of preparing meals in his very own restaurant, he fed his entrepreneurial aspirations with catering jobs that he occasionally landed on the side. For Anthony, family was extremely important. He began his own family on September 6, 1988 when he married Michelle Ann Butler and became stepfather to Charles "Chuck" Theodore Butler III. The small family soon grew by two with the addition of another son, Anthony "Tony" Thomas Long, and a daughter, Shannon Nichole Long. He is survived by his wife, Michelle, his 30-year old stepson, Chuck, his 22-year-old son, Tony, and his 18-year-old daughter, Shannon. Anthony, the eldest son of his immediate and extended family, was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Long, and his grandparents, John Douglas and Elzora Mathis. He is survived by his mother, Mary Dickerson, stepfather, Charles Dickerson, brothers Tyrone and Darryl Long, step-sisters Valerie Douglas and Veniece Hughes, and "adopted" sister Gena Jones. He will be greatly missed by his Aunt, Laura Lyons, his nine nieces and nephews, and his many cousins all of whom he so loved and enjoyed. His warm smile, hearty laugh, and gentle disposition will also be missed by countless friends and numerous co-workers with whom he shared so many of life's pleasures, large and small. And, though his rowdy cheer will no longer be heard, his loyalty and connection to "his" team, the San Francisco Forty-Niners, will endure. God looked upon his garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain. He knew you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone For part of us went with you The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again.
