Joiner

Obituary

Anthony Daryl Joiner, affectionately known to many as "Tony," passed away peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 11, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on February 17, 1954, in Cincinnati, Tony lived a life rooted in creativity, compassion, and deep love for his family and community.

Tony was the beloved son of the late Elmer Lovell Joiner and Lona Mae Joiner, and was preceded in death by his siblings Michael Edward Joiner, Elmore Joiner Jr., and Steven Tyrone Joiner, as well as his grandparents Lona Mae Randolph and Tanzy Randolph. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, sharing his childhood with his siblings: Gwendolyn Joiner, Stewart Joiner, Juanita "Kelli" Joiner-Waldon, Douglas Thomas Randolph Joiner, LeNore Thomas, Phillip Barry Joiner, Valerie Veronica Joiner, Cynthia Ann Joiner-Dawson, and Lona Marie Joiner-Maddox.

Tony received his early education at St. Henry Catholic School, where he attended from kindergarten through eighth grade. During that time, he served as an altar boy and developed a love for music, often singing in the church choir. He later attended Elder High School and went on to study at Moore University of Hair Design, which helped shape the path for his career.

A gifted artist with an avant-garde taste, Tony had a natural eye for beauty and design. He was an excellent painter and decorator who expressed himself through creativity. As a self-employed cosmetologist, he dedicated his professional life to helping others feel confident and cared for. Tony also had a love for the stage and the spotlight, known as one of the best dancers in the family. He often performed at variety shows in community centers and schools and was especially known for dancing alongside his sister, Kelli.

From a young age, Tony had a nurturing spirit. Family members fondly called him "Dr. Do Little" because he would often bring home animals to care for, nurse back to health, and love. That same gentle, compassionate nature defined the way he loved people.

On March 30, 1984, Tony married his former spouse, Kathleen, and together they created a beautiful blended family. From that union, they welcomed Miquela and AJ, adding to the love already shared in their home. Tony deeply cherished his role as a father and found his greatest joy in his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling, especially cruising, where he felt free, happy, and at peace.

Tony leaves to cherish his memory his children, in order of birth: Antonia Nakia Johnson, Miquela Sparkle Johnson (son-in-love, Yosiah Johnson), and Anthony "AJ" Joiner Jr. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Royalty Rayne Hearn, Regis Hearn Jr., Ryleigh Hearn, and Amari Johnson.

He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and extended family who will forever remember his warmth, his laughter, his creativity, and the joy he brought into every room. Tony's life was marked by love, music, artistry, and a generous spirit. Whether cruising around the world, singing in the choir, dancing with family, caring for animals, or creating beauty through his work, he lived life with heart and originality. His presence, laughter, and bold confident nature will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
