Annesse Ann Smith was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 26, 1937 to Elton Smith and Eunice Rebecca Smith. Most people knew Annesse by the name Shirley. She was educated through the Orange County School System. While there in High School, she played the trombone musical instrument and had a love of music. Annesse graduated from Jones High School June 1956 and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, joining the Mt Zion Baptist Church, in Orlando, Florida. She won a Music Scholarship after finishing high school, but decided to turn it down to move to Cincinnati, Ohio, to live with her Aunt and Uncle, Bacus and Gertrude Thomas. There, she became a member of Southern Baptist Church under the late pastor, Reverend James E. Milton. Annesse worked as a lab technician at Christ Hospital and had many ambitions. Some she realized; some she didn't. Like her mother, she was a meticulous dresser. She loved the Lord. She loved and enjoyed life. Her most precious jewel was that she loved talking and fellowshipping with people. She loved helping and giving of what she had. Her parents, Elton and Eunice Rebecca Smith and her son, Daron Pettway preceded her in death. Annesse Smith , age 80, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 in Cincinnati , Ohio. Left to cherish her memory are: two daughters, Soniya Pettway and Sirenia Pettway; a son Cervantes Pettway; six grandchildren, Santasasia Pettway, Daron Pettway, Jr., Cervantes Jr., Isaac Jr., Joshua Pettway, and Akeem Pettway; five sisters, Gertie Thomas, Sandra Smith, Beverly Smith, Wanda (Cookie) Smith, and Cheryl Smith; two brothers, Carl Smith and Marvin Smith and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the Walker Event Center, 3939 Reading Road (Corner of Reading and Paddock), Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
