Anna Akins-Alexander, age 82, of Fort Thomas, KY, passed away on August 29th, 2020. Anna survived her siblings, Gladys Moran and Edna Swann, and parents, James and Pearl Akins.

Born in Chicago, IL, Anna was the youngest of 3 sisters. She moved with the family as an infant to Kansas City, Kansas where she was raised.  She graduated from Sumner Academy (High School) and went on to attend the University of Kansas.  She ultimately graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Lincoln University in Missouri and proudly joined the sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA).  After many years, Anna returned to college to earn a Master's Degree in Education from Kansas State University.

Anna was known for her extensive career as an elementary school teacher in Kansas City and Omaha. She touched countless children's lives over several generations and impacted them for the better. Her focus was on providing basic skills education for children struggling with learning disabilities and multicultural educational lesson planning.  In 2005, she retired to care for her ailing mother.

Anna also possessed a very strong love of the arts (music, dance, visual, etc.), crafts, animals, and gardening. These were passions that her daughter also developed as a result of her nurturing.  Most importantly, Anna was a devoted mother, mother-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend. Many loved her deeply and will miss her kind spirit and comforting nature.

She is survived by her daughter, Marissa Alexander-Scott, nephews, Clarence Moran and Jeron Swann, niece Deneen Henderson, and great-nephews and nieces, Stacey Swann, Jamel Henderson, and Alex Moran, and a host of cousins and other extended family.

A celebration of Anna's life for family and friends will be held at a later date in Kansas City once COVID-19 is under better control.
