Obituary

"I heard a voice you cannot hear, which says I must not stay. I see a hand you cannot see which beckons me away." A loving husband, father, brother, and friend, CPO Alvin F. Wilson, Sr., a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully and quietly on May 13, 2017, at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio, from complications of Parkinson's disease. Alvin accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Straight Life Baptist Church by the late Reverend A. H. Landry. He graduated from Captiol Jr Senior High School and joined the United States Navy in 1957. He retired at the age of thirty-seven in 1976 after serving twenty years. Afterward, he worked in the field of manufacturing as manager and vice president of Ball Corporation and Bear Medical in Southern California. He retired a second time in 2005. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Earline Wilson, sister, Carolyn Weatherspoon, and grandson, D'Andre Smith. Alvin leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-seven years, Shirley Harris Wilson, two daughters, Terri L. Rogers and Tyra D. Wilson, three sons, Alvin Wilson, Jr., Kevin B. (Yvonne) Wilson, Tevin D. Wilson, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four sisters, Elizabeth Franklin, Sandra Wilson, Cathy Griffin, Tammie Wilson, two brothers, James P. Hayes, Jr., Malcom (Roslyn) Wilson, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, aunt, Dorothy Smith of Los Angeles, California, stepmother, sister and brother Magdalene Wilson, Pamela (Michael) Hammock, Gregory Wilson, all of Oakland, California. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Alvin's remains to be cremated with burial at sea with full military honors. A Memorial will be held at a later date in Cincinnati, Ohio.
