Obituary

Alphonso West "Al West", age 64, of Cincinnati, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020, in Cincinnati, Ohio.   He was born on September 10, 1955, in Miami, Florida.

Al West, who was born and raised in Miami, Florida then moved to Akron Ohio, attended Grace Elementary, West Jr. High and South High School. Graduating in 1973. He went on to attend Central State University, Majoring in Business Administration Graduating in 1977.

Al West received his Ms.Ed degree, from the University of Dayton in 1980 with a Social Agency Counseling specialization. He has also attended the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University in Post Educational Studies. He was currently enrolled in a Doctorate Program at Walden University in Higher Education and Adult Learning.

Al West was an accomplished Football and Track and Field Coach for over 26 years living in Cincinnati Ohio, Al has served as Head Football Coach for Cincinnati Hughes for 12 years, Head Track Coach (Hughes) for 15 years, and Head Football Coach at Central State University for 3 years. In addition, Al West has served as Dean of Students, Central State University and taught in Cincinnati Public Schools for over 18 years (Health and Physical Education).

With these responsibilities, it wasn't uncommon to find Al, giving motivational and inspirational talks to Churches, Sports Campus, Youth Groups, and School Assemblies. ,, Al West was a faithful member of Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple (Cincinnati, OH) under the leadership of the late Bishop Paul Bowers, for over 25 years. It was there, where you would find Al, working in various Church Ministries: Golden Gems, Voices of Emanuel, Children's Church, Personal Evangelism Team, Altar and Baptism Worker, All about Souls Jail ministry and Vacation Bible school his thrust for the Lord and Motivation for Souls to be saved, kept him motivated to share the Good News of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Al is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Rosa Lockett; maternal grandmother Nellie M. West; and maternal grandfather Homer West Al is survived by mother and father, Mary Louise Lockett and Ramon Lockett, Jr.; his sister Nennia Williamson; niece LaTanya Williamson; cousin Alphonso Bethel; several other cousins, family, and friends.
