Johnson was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 20, 1923, the third of four girls born to the late Marcellus and Ophelia Watkins. She departed this life on February 5, 2014. Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Cuthbert Johnson, Sr., her son Cuthbert Johnson, Jr. and sisters, Mattie Chapman, Helen Johnson and Mary Hurd. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the First Antioch Baptist Church until her health began to decline. Alice loved to sing and was a member of the church choir for many years. Family was most important to Alice. Alice was a loving mother to her only child Cuthbert Johnson, Jr. until his untimely death in 2004. She was also a devoted grandmother and aunt. Alice was close to her sisters and loved them dearly. She and her baby sister Mary were inseparable and lived together in later years. They enjoyed an active social life and well into their eighties could be spotted around the city - Mary driving and Alice riding shotgun. Alice had a way with people. She put them at ease immediately and left a lasting impression with her sensitivity, kindness and sense of humor. When her health and memory began to fail and she transitioned into a nursing facility, she continued to touch lives and was a favorite of the staff who cared for her. Alice leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Pamela Johnson; her grandson, Cuthbert Jude Johnson (Candis); her granddaughter, Ardella Johnson; two great-grand children, Adriana and Aiden; a niece, Arminta Tubbs (Arthur) of Cincinnati, Ohio; a nephew, Scott Tyler of Ancaster, Ontario; and a host of great nieces, great nephews and friends.
