Curry
February 24, 1936 – July 9, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Alberteen "Peggy" Curry, affectionately known as "Peg," on July 9, 2025. She was 89 years old.
Born on February 24, 1936, in Raleigh, North Carolina, to the late Albert Sylvester Gibbs and Martha Gibbs, Alberteen was a beacon of love, grace, and quiet strength. She built her life upon the foundations of faith, family, and unwavering love, and she poured her heart into every role she carried—with humility, resilience, and a spirit that touched everyone she encountered.
A lifelong member of the United House of Prayer for All People in Cincinnati, Ohio, Alberteen proudly served on the Usher Board, welcoming others with warmth and reverence, just as she lived her life—with open arms and a generous soul.
Alberteen was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her love was limitless, her guidance gentle but firm, and her presence a constant source of peace and strength. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she left behind a legacy of love that will live on in every heart she touched.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Woodford "Salty" Howard Curry, and her cherished daughters Loretta Jean Curry and Phyllis Hill, as well as her longtime partner, Aaron Long.
She is survived by her loving children: Martha A. Crawford of Fort Myers, FL; Jacqueline Lundy of Cincinnati, OH; Howard Lamont Curry (Nina) of Cincinnati, Oh; Two devoted sons-in-law: Kenneth Hill of Cincinnati, OH and Craig Crawford of Fort Myers, FL
Her love lives on through her grandchildren (14 in total, two preceded her in death): Demond Curry (deceased), Antonio Lundy (deceased), Michael Curry, Talisha Curry, Camille Crawford, Imari Crawford (Marvin), Tamica Evans (Eric), Kenneth Hill (Jeaninne), Kendra Ward (Vernon), Melvin Lundy IV, Jeremy Lundy, Jacqueline Johnson (Markeith), Darnell Jefferson, and Ikeailia Curry.
Eighteen great-grandchildren and one beloved great-great-grandchild continue to carry her light: Mikayla Curry, Taliah Hodge, Tyrell Hodge, Tierra Hodge, Calanie Sainval, Isaiah Sibert, Marvin II Harris, Miyahni Harris, Shamani Dean (Tyler), Chazon Ashford, Kendrick Hill, Kayla Stephens, Ariel Stephens, Zion Stephens, Le'oshia Lundy, Miayr Johnson, J'Bri Curry, Amiri Cottingham, and great-great-grandchild Cayden Johnson.
She is also survived by her dear sisters: Sylvia Gibbs of Bronx, NY, Viola Brooks of Baltimore, MD, and Grace Griffin of Charlotte, NC.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Helen Becton, Clara Gibbs, Catherine Jemison, and Elizabeth Young, and her brothers Jeremiah Gibbs and John Gibbs.
Her surviving brothers are Apostle Charles M. Gibbs, James Gibbs, and Mark Gibbs, all of Baltimore, MD.
She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and family friends.
Alberteen "Peggy" Curry (Peg) will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and outspoken, unwavering strength. Her presence was calming, her love unconditional, and her faith unshakeable. To know her was to feel deeply loved, and to lose her is to grieve a light that will never be replaced.
We thank God for the gift of her life and the blessing of her love. Though she is no longer with us in the flesh, her spirit lives on—in our stories, our memories, and the generations she helped shape.
