Myrtlee Kern, 86, was born in Cuba, Alabama on January 25, 1932. She was the fourth of twelve children born to the late Richard Parker, Sr. and Lorean (White) Parker. Myrtlee (Parker) was baptized at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Cuba, Alabama.
After graduation from Kinterbish High School in 1951, Myrtlee moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she worked at Nu Way Linen Supply Company. She married Leroy Kern in June 1953, and to that union was born two sons and three daughters.
Upon moving from the West End to the East End, Myrtlee became an active member in the local church, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Barron and Rev. Hamilton. She sang in the choir, helped during Vacation Bible School, and worked in the kitchen. Upon relocating to Corryville, she became a member of New Mission Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Bea until her health declined. During her children’s elementary school years, she participated in the PTA and field trip activities at Lincoln Elementary School.
As Myrtlee’s health began to further decline, she became a resident of Indianspring of Oakley Nursing Home in July 2018. Myrtlee went home to be with the Lord on the morning of January 10, 2019.
Myrtlee Kern was preceded in death by her daughter Eunice Lee Kern, husband Leroy Kern; brothers Richard, Parker, Jr., Robert P. Parker, Tommie L Parker, and Walter Freddie Parker; sisters Annie Mat (Parker) Hearn, Clara (Parker) Gist, and Minnie (Parker) Williams; and son-in-law Henry Crawford.
She leaves to cherish her memory: children Eloise (Harvie) Delaine, John Alfred Kern, Myra Virginia Kern-Crawford, Marilyn Kern, and Melvin (Karen) Kern; grandchildren Pamela Delaine, Patrice Delaine, and Julian Kern; brother and sisters Johnny Parker, Annie Ruth (Parker) Larkin, Earlee (Parker) Jimerson, Evelyn (Parker) Nicholson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Walker Event Center, 3939 Reading Road (Corner of Reading and Paddock), Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery, 3701 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220.
