Mattie Jean Flowers was born on July 22, 1949 in Holmes County, Mississippi to the union of the late Glarince Covington and Mattie Brandon. She Departed this Life on December 9, 2019 under the care of Hospice of Cincinnati at Llanfair Retirement Community surrounded by family.
Mattie received her formal education in the Winona Public School system and graduated from JJ Knox High School.
Mattie has lived in several cities and states, and decided to follow her sisters to Cincinnati where she called her final home. She was a private person who had a very strong work ethic. Mattie worked mainly in factories where she could work with others but also work by herself. The majority of her working years were at Simpac, a military packing company.
Mattie will be remembered for her strong love for baking, sewing, and gardening. All of which she did in her spare time. Mattie loved her puzzles, card and video games. She could not work a computer but she knew how to get on and locate all the games.
Mattie loved to spend time with her grandchildren that were involved with her. She spent individual quality time with each one of them.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband James L Flowers, sister Effie G. (Grace) Butts and granddaughter Aniyah Flowers-Ballew
Mattie is survived by her three children Lenore Covington, Cassandra Flowers, and Marcus Flowers; one sister Elizabeth Covington; two brothers, Glarince Covington Jr. and Leonard Covington; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at the Walker Funeral Home, 7272 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy (45231). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
