Lucina Ann Kane, 98, of Cincinnati, Ohio formerly of Shenandoah, passed away on, Saturday, March 23, 2019. She was born April 12, 1920, in New York City, the only child of the late George and Anne O’Malley Beck. Anne passed away shortly after Lucina’s birth.
Lucina was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio by her widowed maternal grandmother, Bridget O’Malley, and her maiden aunt, Mary O’ Malley. After high school, she received her diploma from St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and went on to join the U.S. Army Nurse Corp as a registered nurse. She and her future beloved husband of 63 years, John Andrew Charles Kane, met at church - the Army Post’s Catholic Chapel at Mitchell Field, Long Island, New York—where they both sang in the chapel choir. After the first two of their nine children were born, Lucina and John, a percussionist with the Michael Field U.S. Army Air Force Band, moved to Arlington, Virginia where they raised their family; residing there forty-eight years, with John retiring, first from the U.S. Army Band at Fort Myer, Virginia and then 16 years later, from the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.. They moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 1995 and were parishioners at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Elkton until John’s passing in 2008. Their daughter, Teresa Ann Rawoot had passed away in 1997.
She is survived by her sons, John Joseph Kane of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Douglas Kane (Bernadette) of Dickenson, Texas, David James Kane (Ann) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Charles Francis Kane (Mary) of Arlington, Virginia; son-in-law, Abbas Rawoot of Harrisonburg, Virginia; daughters, Mary Freudiger (Thomas) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patricia “Patsy” Froehlich (John “Mark”) of Crozet, Virginia, Cecile Mary Kane of Arlington, Virginia and Clare Regina Schnellbacher (Ed Berryhill) of Dayton, Ohio; 32 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. -12:00 noon on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Elkton, Virgina.
Immediately afterwards, Father Michael Mugomba, pastor of Holy Infant Catholic Church, and Father John Augustine Kane, a grandson, will con-celebrate the 12 p.m. Requiem Mass.
Interment in Arlington National Cemetery.
