Obituary for Rozetta L. Roberts

Rozetta Louise Roberts was born in 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Isaiah and Pearl Arnold. She grew up in a family of six brothers and was the only girl. As a child, she went to church often with her maternal grandmother, Elvira Stovall. Rozetta graduated from Wyoming High School in1950. Her Business Administration teacher, Mr. Richard Allen, was responsible for starting her on the path of government career. She studied at night school at Chase College in downtown Cincinnati, majoring in advance administration courses. This enabled her to secure a job at Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. Roberts started her government career working in civil service in the accounting division and later transferred to Rome, NY in 1953. While living in Rome, NY she married James Searcy. To this union was born seven children.

Although her time in New York offered many opportunities for her career advancement, Mother Roberts eventually returned to Wyoming and later was wed to Ernest Roberts. She was the 1st African American Administrative secretary for the City Manager of the City of Wyoming, Ohio. She worked from 1975 - 1993. In 1990 she was honored as "Citizen of the Year" for the City of Wyoming. She would later become the 1st African American Clerk of Council - serving 1994 to 1997 and city council member for Wyoming, serving 1997 to 2001.

Mother Roberts was a loving and giving woman. She established a legacy of "strength and endurance" that resonates throughout her family. Her love surpassed her own ability, for she truly loved with the love of God--- giving her all to care for her family and others that needed her. Many souls were blessed by her warrior spirit and her ministry of song for she was truly a spiritual rock, always proclaiming and demonstrating that Jesus was the source of her strength.

Mother Roberts was proceeded in death by her sons James (Jimmy) Searcy & Gregory Searcy and her brothers James and Howard Arnold, and a special friend Mother Pearl Davis. On April 16, 2017, Mother Rozetta Louise Roberts passed away on Resurrection Sunday; she reunited with her late husband Ernest E. Roberts who passed away twenty-one years ago on Resurrection Sunday of 1996. The greatest gift that she leaves us is her unconditional love.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, her children Yvonne Lamb (Alfred), Janette Searcy, Darimelle Davis (Jeff), Rotell, Jacqueline; Jason Searcy, Kenneth Roberts (Eletha) and Rebecca Roberts; Annie Ruth; her daughter-in-law Sandy Searcy; Brothers Isaiah Arnold & Clenantt Arnold (Ellie); Sister-in-law Betty Arnold; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
