Obituary for Maxine Levada (Pierce) Howard

Maxine Levada (Pierce) Howard was born in Somerset, Kentucky January 7, 1925. She enjoyed growing up on the farm in a family of seven children. There they had many family dinners with fresh milk and eggs and home canned food.

At age nineteen, Maxine moved to Cincinnati, Ohio with her brother and sister. On Fountain Square (in Grays Drug Store where Maxine was employed) she met Jack Howard who would be her husband for 62 years until Jacks death in 2008. Years before, Maxine cared for her mother Anita White until her passing at age 94.

Maxine had two children, Dr. Ben Howard and Betty Ogden, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also Maxine has one surviving brother, Dr. John Pierce, his wife Jeanette and two other sister n laws, Jean Pierce and Louise Pierce, and many cousins, Pat Warren, Cheryl Rodgers and Jeana Smith to name a few.

Over the years, Maxine worked at Coppins in Covington, Ky. at American Book Company in Cinn. Ohio and later in her home. There she ran a childcare center for over ten years. She and Jack loved teaching and caring for those kids in their home and was such an inspiration that two members of Maxines family opened Commercial Preschools in Ky. Maxine quit the childcare business to fly to Las Vegas to be with her daughter when Maxines first grandson was born.. Matthew Ogden. Two years later, she flew back to see her granddaughter, Amy Ogden born. Maxine was also there for the birth of Ben's children, Tracy and Aliena and Brenna and Barbara (twins adopted at age five).

Maxine was an excellent seamstress. She sewed drapes, choir robes at EBC, clothes ...even reupholstered furniture for Betty and Ben. Maxine even into her late 80s had a BIG garden in her yard along with "Beautiful flowers." She loved the outdoors so we always knew where to find her.. Maxine loved to cook! She made the best chocolate pie, coleslaw, chicken casserole and of course her famous "Homemade Yeast Rolls." She loved having her family and friends over for dinner. She loved her Erlanger Baptist Church where you could find her in Sunday School, delivering flowers to the sick, delivering holiday meals, or cooking in the lunch room. If the church was open and there was a special event, she was there.

Maxine spent many vacations with daughter and son n law, Betty and Randy Ogden. Maxine loved to FLY!!! She flew to Hawaii and enjoyed six weeks there with them.. She spent 14 winters snow birding to Las Vegas and Florida.. She loved visiting her granddaughter, Amy and family, Jim and little 17 month old Gia. Also, Maxine went with Betty to the Bahamas and loved it!

In the late spring of 2015, Maxine suffered a major stroke and was left with aphasia making it difficult to speak and be understood. For almost three years she lived with her daughter Betty and son n law Randy, Maxine's grandson, Matt and granddaughter n law, Mandy.

Maxine's love of God, love of family and friends was her life.. She always said, "Put God first in your life and marriage and you will always be fine. God will get you through the tough times.. You just have to trust in him and he will do the rest."
