Mamie Beal Obituary

Mamie Lee Beal (nee Williams) was born to George and Minnie Williams on September 11, 1926 in Abbeville County, South Carolina. She was the youngest of six children: sister Mallie and brothers Sam, [dell, John W, Lenton and George. who have all preceded her in death.
Mamie left the south and relocated in Cincinnati, Ohio as her brother Sam was already here. She met and married John Beal in Cincinnati, Ohio. No children were born from their union, but they shared a stepson, Robert Beal Jr.

Later on, Mamie relocated to Washington, D.C. in the
early 1960 's in order to help her brother George raise his six children after the death of his wife, Hazel. Mamie took a year leave of absence from her job (St. Marks Catholic Archdiocese) and then she returned to Cincinnati, Ohio. That's just one example of how much Mamie loved her family and was such a giving person. She showered her nieces and nephews with love and affection and often took them to the park and carnivals. Mamie had a strong personality and loved to talk to
everyone she met. She didn't mind sharing her opinion either.

Mr. John Beal passed away in the 1980's, leaving Mamie a widow. She mourned this loss for a long time, because she never figured that she would be alone. Eventually, she began to live life again and she worked and enjoyed being with her family every chance she got! Mamie worked' for the Catholic Church in Evanston and eventually she retired from the Catholic Archdiocese. Again, retirement, loneliness and health issues began to take a toll on Mamie as she began to close herself off from those that loved her.\ However, she had a very close and dear friend, Beatrice, w11.'i/ lt~'t a watchful eye on her
and her niece Mary Clark. She also had two cousins, Lucille Watkins and Lois Bell, who kept in touch with her and often persuaded Mamie to go to family reunions and other gatherings. They often got a pass and kept Mamie overnight during the holidays and such. They all continued to look out for Mamie, until it was determined that she could no longer care for herself. She went to Oak Pavilion Nursing Home and resided there for a great many years. The staff all knew her and took good care of her. The first 10 years or so, Mamie flourished and she participated in all sorts of activities. Her favorite thing was when they went to 'Bingo', that was her good time. She always talked about what she won and how much fun she had. If you met her, you would know that she
was a 'talker' and she loved meeting people. However; over time, she lost interest in doing those things too and didn't want to participate as much.

Mamie loved to talk about 'down home' South Carolina. She had a keen memory about down South too! But she always said that she didn't want to go back there, it was too slow ..... too country for her. She often talked about our kin folks from 'down home' and she had the stories about who married who and who fathered who. She could rattle off those stories like it was yesterday!

Mamie leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, God-daughter, Rasheedat Fetuga, great-niece Carmen Brewn, nephews Bruce Williams and Alphonso Braswell, cousins Lucille Watkins and Lois Bell and a host of other friends and relatives. She will be missed.
