Geneva Marie Strayhorn was born on December 4, 1960 to the late Jacqueline and Fletcher Strayhorn in Cincinnati, Ohio. She committed her life to Christ at Lincoln Heights Baptist Church at an early age. Her selfless love and generosity of spirit were a testament of her faith.
From her youth Geneva could often be found quietly doing whatever she could to assist her mother, to support her siblings, and encourage her cousins and friends. Geneva was a rare, authentic, and selfless person who lived what she believed.
Geneva graduated from Princeton High School in 1979 and later studied accounting at the University of Cincinnati. Family was Geneva’s greatest passion. She loved spending time with them, singing, talking, and laughing. Spending leisure time at the casinos also gave Geneva joy. Geneva was always happiest when she made others happy, and she never had a problem with giving advice to anyone about anything.
Geneva considered her greatest accomplishment and passion to be her only child, Genesia Strayhorn. Geneva fortified her daughter and subsequently her grandchildren, Amaria DuPree and Ashtin Moody, with unconquerable love, faith, and strength that came from knowing she was a child of the Most High God.
Geneva follows her older sister Leslie Robinson from earth to heaven. In addition to her child and grandchildren, left to mourn her loss are older brothers, Robert Grove and Raymond Stevens and sisters Kelly Strayhorn and Dulce Clay-Blackmon. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. We are all blessed by her having passed this way.
